Select Genetics is proud to announce the completion of its new North Carolina Gray Farm brood/grow facility, further demonstrating the company’s ongoing commitment to investing in modern infrastructure that supports bird performance, welfare, and sustainability.
The Gray Farm, a brood, grow, and dark-out facility, was completed in August 2025, and poults were placed on September 8, 2025. The farm will house 20,000 hens and 5,000 toms, marking an important step forward in Select Genetics’ long-term infrastructure development strategy.
Designed with a shower-in, shower-out system and secure connecting hallways between the shower, breakroom, and turkey houses, the facility incorporates multiple layers of biosecurity to protect flock health. By keeping all people, birds, and activities within the clean zone for the duration of the workday, the risk of introducing outside pathogens is minimized. All necessary tools and equipment used to care for the birds remain inside the barns and are not moved outside the clean zone. In addition, the facility includes a dedicated sanitation room where all incoming supplies are disinfected and held overnight before being transferred into the supply room—further strengthening our biosecurity barriers.
Key Infrastructure Highlights
Advanced construction: 48 inch solid concrete exterior stem walls, concrete flat work with storm drains between barns, 10 foot perimeter concrete apron, and 60 foot concrete loading/unloading pads.
Lighting and ventilation: Dimmable lights simulate natural sunrise and sunset, and ventilation gradually ramps up and down to create optimal conditions.
Precision feeding systems: Weigh scales on each tank allow control by time and pounds per day, paired with platform scales to monitor turkey weights.
Sustainability features: Dehydration unit for mortality disposal, reducing the farm’s carbon footprint and creating a high-protein byproduct with commercial potential.
Enhanced safety measures: Dust control sprinklers and full video surveillance across the farm.
This modern facility reflects Select Genetics’ dedication to operational excellence, biosecurity, and long-term sustainable production.
